People call about air duct cleaning for a handful of reasons. They just bought the house and have no idea what the last owners left in the ducts. Nobody can remember the last time. There's grey fuzz on the register faces. Or the furnace fires for the first time in October and what you smell is whatever sat in the ducts all summer. Plenty of houses open up clean, and then the answer is no.
So we look first. The tech takes a return grille off, puts a camera in, photographs what's in your ducts and shows you. If the metal is clean, the cover goes back on and there's nothing to sell. If it isn't, we price by the size of the home and the number of systems, never per register. Return Air Duct Cleaning covers the intake side. Whole Home Air Duct Cleaning covers every supply and return line, with the register covers washed and put back. The third tier adds an ActivePure Air Scrubber in the main duct at the furnace. Before and after photos when we can get them. Most houses need it every three to five years.
Sometimes, and the camera photos are how you find out. If the duct walls are furred over, cleaning takes that out of the loop your air runs through, and the before and after are obvious. If the metal is clean, it isn't worth it and we say so. Look first, then decide.

Some time later they also installed a water filter under my sink so that I don’t have to drink the chlorine filled pool water the city gives us anymore. I highly recommend the swiftest of the pros!
